Powers of South African Nursing Council

The Nursing Council has powers to:

bulletinspect and approve nursing schools and nursing education programmes;
bulletconduct examinations and issue qualifications;
bulletregister and enrol nurses, midwives and nursing auxiliaries and to keep registers and rolls;
bulletwhere authorized by the Nursing Act, remove from, or restore to a register or roll any name;
bulletissue licences to nursing agencies;
bulletcharge the prescribed fees in respect of any services rendered;
bulletrequire employers to submit annual returns of registered and enrolled nurses in their employ and such other information as may become necessary at any time; and
bulletacquire, hire or dispose of property, borrow money on the security of the assets of the Council, accept or make any donation or accept and administer any trust.

The POWERS of South African Nursing Council are specified in section 4 of the Nursing Act, 2005.
