Electronic Register of Nurses and Midwives.

Click here to start the eRegister
system.

eRegister is published in terms of section 35 of the Nursing Act, 2005 as a COPY of the official register. It is primarily intended for use by those who need to verify the registration status of a practitioner and the validity of the original documents presented by the practitioner.
Practitioners may also use eRegister to confirm their own registration status.
WHAT DO I NEED TO USE eRegister?
eRegister is a free to use application available to anyone who has access to the Internet. You obviously need a computer which is connected to the Internet. And your computer must have a suitable web browser program such as Microsoft Internet Explorer, Netscape Navigator, Firefox, etc. Most computers that meet these requirements should be able to access
eRegister without further adjustment.
The system has been extensive testing using Internet Explorer 6 and 7 and therefore can recommend that
eRegister will perform best when using Internet Explorer 6 or better.
If eRegister does not behave as expected, you may have to enable JavaScript on your browser. It is also recommended (but not essential) that your browser should allow the storing of cookies on your computer.
USING eRegister
eRegister has been designed to be as simple to use as possible. If you read the instructions on each screen, and follow them, you should not have any difficulty. Take a moment to read through the Help page before getting started as it contains additional information to assist you. Please read all notes boxes carefully – they contain important information about the information displayed using
eRegister.
Accessibility
We recognize that not everyone uses computers in the same way and that some users are not able to do so. For example, there may be users who are unable to use a mouse or other pointing device. Fortunately there are other ways of using
eRegister. Pressing “Enter” on any page will always perform the most logical action. As an alternative to clicking on a button, you can also use “Alt” and the first letter of the button e.g. you can press “Alt-C” to Close
eRegister. You can also use the “Tab” key to cycle through the various controls on each page e.g. you can press “Tab” until the Help button is highlighted and then press “Enter” to display Help.
TIP: We recommend that you try using just the numeric keypad and the Enter key as
this is possible the easiest and fastest way to access eRegister.
IMPORTANT NOTES ON USING eRegister
Employers are cautioned that they may not rely solely on eRegister when checking the credentials of a new employee. The applicant’s identity must be authenticated by the production of the necessary identity documents and the necessary original documents which serve as proof of registration in terms of the Nursing Act, 2005.
Once the employee’s true identity has been established, eRegister can be used to monitor the on-going registration status of the practitioner.
IF YOU HAVE PROBLEMS USING eRegister
Please remember that your own PC and its software can be the cause of problems with this application. So too can your Internet connection and all the communication links in between your computer and the Council’s server. If you do have problems, please try to see if you get the same results on another computer OR at a later time.
If you still have any difficulty using eRegister, please take careful note of any error message shown. If the error message does not help, take a moment or two to read the Help page and also the Frequently Asked Questions to see if you can solve the problem. If you still have problems, please call the Help Desk on 012 420-1000 or email
registrar@sanc.co.za
It is important that you supply the following information when reporting a problem:
• Computer Operating System (e.g. Windows XP Professional)
• Browser name and version (e.g. Internet Explorer 6.0)
• Full description of the problem
TIP: If you have been using eRegister and stop using it for some time, it will time-out your session. When you try to continue, you will be taken back to the Conditions of Use page and you will have to start over. This is normal operation and does not mean that the system has a problem.
